Today Mars is at Opposition, closest to the Earth,  here is a shot I captured from my backyard Observatory in Dayton, Ohio on 04-06-2014.
This is my first Planet Mars shot of the season,…seeing was rather poor, but I did pick up some white puffy clouds over the Volcano regions Elysium Mons(left limb) and over Olympus Mons & Tharsis Mons region(right Limb). Arcadia Planitia & Amazonia Planitia are dead center between the clouds banks. I can also see the Martian North Polar Ice Cap split by Olympia Planitia…Just wish the seeing was better…will try again the next clear stable night!
